School, Dwarahat, Government High School, Nainital and Reid’s Christian College, Lucknow; m. Shrimati Lilavati, 1920; 3 S. and 4 D.; was private secretary to Shri Moti Lal Nehru for eight years and on his death in 1931 became Private Secretary to Shri Jawaharlal Nehru; Participated in Non-Cooperative Movement; suffered imprisonment for participating in Salt Satyagraha, 1932, Security prisoner, 1942—45; Member, First Lok Sabha, 1952—57 and Second Lok Sabha, 1957—62.
