SAINIK SCHOOL NAGROTA
Sainik School Nagrota was the 17th school to be set up in the chain of 25 Sainik Schools existing today in various states of the country. The foundation stone of the school was laid by the then Union Minister of Defence late Shri Jagjivan Ram on 22nd August 1970.
Since then the school has contributed over 300 officers to the Indian Armed Forces and its alumni are holding prestigious positions in Civil, Judicial and Corporate sectors as well. The school is affiliated to the CBSE and prepares the boys for All India Secondary School Examination (Class X) and All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII) of the CBSE New Delhi. At Hr Sec level the school offers Biology and Computer streams. The school is also an active member of Indian Public Schools Conference and Sahodaya Schools Complex.
LOCATION & CLIMATE – The sprawling 108 acres of picturesque campus overlooking the sacred Trikuta hills is located on the banks of river Tawi at a distance of about 15 Kms from Jammu city. The panoramic view of the Holy Shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi from the campus elevates one’s soul and fills it with mystic sensation. The region records extreme temperatures with high humidity in summer and icy winds from the PirPanjal in winter. The school is connected to Jammu-Srinagar National Highway NH-1A.

MISSION STATEMENT – The aim of Sainik School is to prepare boys academically, physically and mentally for entry in the officer cadre of the Armed Forces through National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla (Pune) and other walks of life.
The other objectives are-
- To develop qualities of body, mind and character that will enable the young boys to become good and responsible citizens.
- To promote good conduct, sound character, team spirit, dedication of purpose, patriotic outlook and desire to serve the country.

The School Crest- “CHINAR LEAF” depicts a sense of permanence and durability with evergreen youthfulness and inspires learning, wisdom and enlightenment. The SUN signifies discipline, firmness and dynamism. BOOK manifests knowledge with intellect and culture. The CROSSED SWORDS stand for bravery and courage. Our motto emphasizes achievement par excellence.

SPORTS FACILITIES – The school has a large number of developed and well maintained grounds/courts for major team games like Basketball, Hockey, Volleyball, Football and sports like Athletics. Other facilities include Cricket, Tennis, Badminton, Squash and a full-fledged Obstacle & GTO course. Inter House Co-curricular Competitions include Debates, Declamation, Quiz Contest, Essay Writing in English and Hindi and Dramatics are being held regularly. The cadets also participate in Inter Sainik School Zonal Competitions and IPSC Sports and Athletics held every year.
