AIIMS India
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is a group of autonomous public medical colleges for pursuing higher education in the field of medicine. AIIMS is one of the most prestigious institutions in India and these institutions are declared to be institutes of national importance in India through an act of the parliament. AIIMS located in New Delhi is the parent institution which came into existence in the year 1956. AIIMS is under the governance of The All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956. Presently AIIMS is located at seven places in India and seven AIIMS institutes are expected to be opened in the upcoming years.
AIIMS was established with an aim to provide high standard of medical education in India. AIIMS helps in bringing out new patterns of teaching in under graduate and post graduate education of medicine in all its disciplines. This institute offers innovative education in the field of medicine and produces quality medical professionals for the country. AIIMS undertakes a variety of UG programmes in medical, nursing and related fields and PG programmes in most of the clinical medical specialities and super specialities.
AIIMS also performs a wide variety of research. AIIMS has published more than 600 research publications forming the leading medical research institution in India. Teaching and research are conducted under 42 different disciplines.
AIIMS conducts a national level entrance examinations for admission to all the Medical UG MBBS and Medical PG courses.
This is a most famous brand name of medical colleges among Indian students. “AIIMS” which stands for All India Institute of Medical Science is a group of medical colleges established at New Delhi, Patna, Rishikesh, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur and Raipur. Among this, AIIMS New Delhi acts as a Parental institution and has almost all latest medical development within the campus.
AIIMS and PMSSY:
Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana is a famous scheme which is established by the Government of India for providing best medical treatments at affordable cost for all categories of people. Also, it wished to provide quality and standard medical education for all groups of students from the less concentrated cities of India.
This scheme has established new AIIMS institutions at six places such as Patna, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Rishikesh and Jodhpur. In addition to this, this scheme also upgraded 13 Government medical institutions according to the latest trends and standards of medical society.
The first phase of setting up of AIIMS institutions was estimated to be around Rs840 Crores for each institution. The above cities were selected according to the various factors such as human development index, literacy rate, infant mortality rates, population below the poverty line, etc.
According to this scheme, six AIIMS institutions consist of
- Each institution is planned to have 960 bedded hospitals in which 500 for medical college hospital, 300 for super specialty centres and remaining beds for Accident/Trauma centres, Rehabilitation centres and Ayush.
- Every medical college will have an intake of 100 MBBS seats per year.
- Almost 42 Super specialty centres were planned to be established to provide health care facilities in all the disciplines.
As mentioned above, AIIMS Institutions are established at New Delhi, Rishikesh, Raipur, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal and Patna.
