SAINIK SCHOOL KUNJPURA, KARNAL
Historical Background: It was on 24 July 1961, that the huge and pelf of bygone days was converted into a temple of learning by the then Defence Minister of India, Sh V.K. Krishna Menon and Sainik mansion of Nawab of Kunjpura, the symbol of power School Kunjpura was born. The school is precisely located in Distt. Karnal, that gets its name from the legendary character of Mahabharata ‘Karna’. The school is situated off the G.T. Road, 8 kms away from Karnal Town. The School stands majestically sprawled over 276 acres land amidst nature’s beauty – the lush green trees and emerald grounds.
Aim: The school was conceived with the motive of bringing public school education to the door step of the common man and preparing the boys academically, mentally and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. The School is indeed rendering a yeoman service to the nation by providing quality education to the children from the myriad backgrounds. It enables boys from economically weaker sections of the society to take up illustrious careers as officers in the Armed Forces of the Nation and other celebrated professions. The School emphasizes on all-round development of the cadets so that they constantly strive hard to live up to the school motto <strong“siddhim sannadh”<=”” strong=””>i.e. “Ready to Accomplish”. The School has met the aims and objectives laid down by its ‘Founding Father’ and is proud recipient of annexing Raksha Mantri Trophy ‘Seven times’ for sending maximum number of boys to NDA amongst all the Sainik Schools of the country. Character building, dedication, patriotic outlook and esprit-de-corps are the qualities which are promoted by the school.
Infrastructure: The School has a state-of-the-art infrastructure which includes Main Block christened as Bhupinder Hooda Main Block after the Hon’ble Chief-Minister of Haryana, Sh. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a proud alumnus of Sainik School Kunjpura. In ad dition, the school also has Deepak Kapoor NDA Block which houses 15 Class-rooms, 2 wi-fi equipped Computer Laboratories, one fully equipped multi-media room, an impressive Lecture Hall, an Adventure Room, NDA cell and Neurobic Lab. The School has the proud privilege of having a majestic 40 ft tall Artificial Climbing Wall, only one of its kind in the entire State. The School also has an upgraded War-Memorial, Smart Class-rooms, spacious and well-furnished Library having more than 15000 books, Skating Rink, Drill Square, Obstacle Course, Synthetic Lawn Tennis Court, Science Park, renovated Swimming Pool, renovated Boys’ Dormitories, spacious Me ss where 700 cadets can dine together.So far, more than 800 Cadets of the School have joined NDA and a large number of Cadets have joined the forces through CDS and OTA. The School proudly boasts of 25 Generals and equivalent ranks in the Armed Forces.
Strength: At present the school has 612 (Boarders) + 33 (Day Scholars) studying in classes VI to XII.
