Sainik School Ghorakhal
Sainik School Ghorakhal is one among the 25 Sainik Schools under the aegis of the Sainik School Society, Ministry of Defence and is the only school in the state of Uttarakhand. It was established in March 1966 on the magnificent estate of Nawab of Rampur. It is located approximately 04 Kms from Bhowali and 16 Kms from Nainital. The nearest railway station Kathgodam, is 36 Kms from the School.
Situated at about 6000 feet AMSL, Ghorakhal is surrounded by lush green hillsides, famous Lake of Bhimtal and is blessed by the loving care of Golu Devta, the local deity. The mystic beauty of Deodars and Pines instill the aroma of purity, austerity, tranquility and divinity throughout the year. The climate is cool and healthy. It provides a perfect setting for an educational institution.
Special Achievements – Sainik School Ghorakhal has been successful in sending more than 464 cadets to NDA till date and alumni include 02 Lt Gen, 06 Maj Gen 01 Vice Admiral and 01 AVM apart from large number of senior IAS and IPS officer, Doctors and other professionals. Sainik School Ghorakhal has the honour of receiving ‘Defence Minister’s Trophy’ 07 times in last 12 years for sending maximum number of cadets to NDA amongst all Sainik Schools of India.
Apart from the academic aspects, the boys are subjected to the obligations of community living in the school. Physical fitness and overall development of the boys is one of the main objectives of the school. Regular PT, Inter House Sports competitions are held throughout the stay of the cadets in the school. Inter House sports competition are held to develop leadership qualities and sprit of competitiveness. The school has adequate infrastructure for Hockey, Football, Cricket, Badminton, Volleyball, Tennis, Billiards, Athletics and Gymnastics as well as indoor Squash courts, Badminton courts and an indoor swimming pool, a multipurpose sports stadium is also under construction. Special emphasis is given to tap the creative potential of the cadets.
