Sita Mandal 5 s. and 2 associated with Congress, Samyukta Socialist Party and Shoshit Dal; Member, District Board; Member, (i) Bihar Legislative Assembly, 1952—57 and 1962—67, (ii) Bihar  Legislative Council, 1968 resigned membership of Bihar Legislative Council in 1968; Member, Bihar Legislative Assembly 1972—75, resigned membership of Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1975; Minister of Health, Government of Bihar, 1967 and Chief Minister of Bihar, 1968; Member, Fourth Lok Sabha, 1967—70; resigned membership of Lok Sabha in 1967 but was re-elected in a bye-election as Member of  Lok  Sabha in 1968; presently Member, Public Accounts Committee.

Social activities:  Harijan upliftment; opened middle schools, high schools and a few colleges.
