Maya Devi; 1 d.; Agriculturist and Lawyer; participated in the Sugarcane Movement organised by Congress (I) in March 1978; imprisoned for taking part in Satyagraha held at the time of Smt. Indira Gandhi’s arrest; also participated in all other movements organised by Congress (I) from time to time; Block Pramukh and General Secretary, District Congress Committee and City Congress Committee, Mirzapur; Chairman, Health Committee Zila Parishad, Mirzapur; Member, (i) Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, 1974-81 and (ii) Member, Seventh Lok Sabha, 1981-84.

Social activities:  Working for forging unity among farmers, Harijans and Adivasis and rendering service to them; founded several educational institutions and looking after their management; engaged in efforts for the development of rural areas.

Favourite pastime and recreation:  Literature, Music, Travel and reading Sanskrit Literature.

Special interests:  Politics and social service.

Accomplishments in letters, art and science:  Translated Kalidasa’s Ritu Samhar from Sanskrit into Hindi and English.
