Indira Gandhi in 1978; was Minister, (i) Agriculture and Labour, Govt. of Kerala, September 1971—March 1977; (also held charge of Law and Legislation, May 1972—December, 1975), (ii) Health and Tourism, Govt. of Kerala, January 1980—October 1981; Member, AICC; was President Trivandrum District Congress Committee; General Secretary, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee; Member, (i) Syndicate of Kerala University and (ii) Vakkom Panchayat, 1953; Member, Kerala Legislative Assembly, 1970-1984; Speaker, Kerala Legislative Assembly from June 24, 1982—December 31, 1984; presently Member, Panel of Chairmen.
