About BIST

The first self-financing Engineering College in the name of Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was started in Tamil Nadu in 1984 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust, established by the academic visionary Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan. The trust then started Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital, in 1989. Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital was first recognized as a Deemed to be University by MHRD in July 2002, under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 under the new trust Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER). The Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was then brought under the ambit of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) in January 2003.

Thus, Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) is a multi-stream and multi-cultural university, providing high quality education to nearly 10000 students from around the world. It is functioning in a sprawling area of 305 acres of land located in 4 Campuses both in Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry with the state of the art infrastructure facilities. There are 1300 Teaching Faculty members in the University to teach UG and, PG programmers and to guide Ph.D. Research.

Admission Procedure:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA IN QUALIFYING EXAMINATION

B.Tech.

A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with minimum 50% aggregate in Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry

For Bio Enginering Departments a Pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with Minimum 50% aggregate in Physics Chemistry & Mathematics/Biology

B.Tech. (Lateral Entry)

A pass in Diploma recognized by Central or State Government with 50% aggregate/ B.Sc. with Mathematics or its equivalent

B.Arch.

“No candidate, with less than 50% marks in aggregate, shall be admitted to the architecture course unless he/she has passed an examination at the end of the 10+2 scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject of examinations at the 10+2 level”

A pass in National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the council of Architecture. However, the candidates have to apply in the prescribed application form for admission to B.Arch. Program.

Student Participation and Activities:

The following special facilities are available on campus to promote students interest in sports and cultural events/activities.

Providing Special sponsor for the students who are participating in state level and national level tournaments.

Providing 50% sponsorship for the students who are participating in district level tournaments.

Special coaching for cricket, volley ball, basket ball.

Free yoga training has been given for the sports students.

Hostels

Bharath University gives great importance to the welfare of its students. It has separate fully equipped hostel facilities for boys and girls. It has 6 blocks of hostels with compound wall and landscaped gardens. All hostel blocks are well connected by roads. RO water plant treatment caters the water needs of the hostel. Sewage plant is fully functional.

5 hostels are located in Bharath University campus. There are 4 boy’s hostel and 1 girl’s hostel, which accommodate 1470 students in single bedded, two-bedded and three-bedded rooms with ac and non-ac facilities. There are 12 A/C rooms in boy’s hostel and 10 A/C rooms in girl’s hostel. Individual metering services for those who want A/C facilities is also provided. Post-graduates students have separate block of hostels. Each block has separate gym, library, laundry facilities and internet center. Each floor in the hostels has TVs with cable connection. Optional washing services are provided in well maintained separate washing areas. In addition, we provide a Men’s saloon for the boys.

Health Center

Primary health care center takes care of the health of the students. All students in hostels are checked regularly on monthly basis by the doctors of the university hospital. The university hospital has full-fledged hospital facilities with ICU and emergency care for 24 hours. An ambulance is always standby for any medical emergency. All medicines and investigation are provided free of charge to all students and faculty.

Guest House

All visiting parents and guests can stay in the fully furnished air-conditioned guesthouse in the respective campuses. More than 100 guests can stay at the same time.

Bank and ATM

Punjab National Bank provides the ATM and banking at the respective campuses for the need of the students and faculty.

Other facilities

Each campus has a post office STD, ISD pay phones, copier facility, stationery store, souvenir shop etc. The university has the tie-ups with beauty parlor, travel agency etc.
