About University
The University status was conferred to Vel’s Group of Institutions, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. As a logical consequence of this, the founder Chairman Dr.Ishari K.Ganesh has become the President/Chancellor and now he leads the implementation of strategic plan that aims to shape the institute’s future growth. He visualizes an University which will be globally more competitive and internationally recognized institution. The students are shaped and fine tuned as per the requirements of global industries. The environment-friendly Green campus is equipped with all facilities, where every need of both student and faculty has been provided for.
To promote a student-friendly learning environment, the University is following the semester pattern and choice based credit system for its entire academic programme both at the under-graduate and post graduate levels. The system is expected to promote multipoint entry and flexibility to suit the needs of individual learners. The programmes offered are approved by AICTE and other statutory bodies such as Pharmacy Council of India, Indian Association of Physiotherapists and Director General of Shipping.

The engineering education at VELs University is designed to accommodate current trends and future needs. VELS University has incorporated flexibility in its curricula. As such they have an obligation to address the full range of higher education, namely: teaching and learning, research, and service to the community. The major element in our design of engineering education is teamwork and partnership. In addition to the regular curriculum, they provide additional courses on communication skills and soft skills to make our students prepared to face any interview. They also VELS University arrange several invited talks, conduct seminars/workshops, and National & International conferences on state of the art technology. Admission Procedure:
Eligibility:
For the 1st Semester of BE/B. Tech candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations (10+2) curriculum (Academic Steam) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as three of the four subjects or any examination of any other authority accepted by the BOM of Vels University as equivalent there to for B.E Bio. Medical and B. Tech Biotechnology apart from MPC, Biology as the fourth paper is preferable.

Should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination in the Vocational Stream (Vocational Groups Engineering Technology) lateral entry. The candidate who passed e the Diploma in Engineering Technolegy awarded by the concerned State Board of Technical Education or its equivalent are eligible to apply for the Lateral Entry admission to the third semester of B. E/B. Tech in the branch corresponding to the branch of study.

the candidate who passes with a degree in Science (B.Sc. or 10+2+3) stream with Mathematics as a subject at the B. Sc level are eligible to apply for Lateral Entry admission to the third semester of B. E/B. Tech. Such a candidate shall undergo two additional Engineering subjects in the third and fourth semesters as prescribed by the University.
Criteria of Merit:
Merit based on Vels’ entrance examination score and Merit based on percentage of marks secured in the qualifying examination, Candidates with Section A & B Certificate Holders and other similar certificate holders of professional bodies or societies leg. AMIEI recognised by the Ministry of HEO, Government of India, are considered as equivalent to the B.E.
Infrastructure and Facilities:
VELS University is spread over 29 acres. The pride of VISTAS is its’ Computing Centre, sophisticated labs, well-furnished class rooms along with Wi-Fi internet facilities.
Research Activities:
The major objective of higher education is to create or add to existing fund of knowledge. At its best, research education is an apprenticeship – a student develops capacity of independent research by working closely with scholars, whose work can serve as a model. Achieving this, requires more than completing courses, accumulating grades and passing prescribed examinations.
To motivate the students for research in our institutions, the science departments provide adequate opportunities for those who have research aptitude. The laboratories in Microbiology and Biotechnology are provided with sophisticated equipment. The students are allowed to choose their research area. The University has been approved by UGC to facilitate the flow of fund for research projects.

Sports & Games:
The University have vast and well laid out tracks. Excellent facilities are offered for all the indoor and outdoor games. The students get excellent training by a qualified Physical Director and his team of assistants. The students are encouraged to participate in various inter collegiate competitions to exhibit their talents and win medals and trophies. Vel’s Sports Academy is functions to promote sports and games.
Transportation:
Pallavaram is well allied with local electric train network and City Transport Corporation buses and buses are available from the Pallavaram Railway Station to the campus and vice versa at nominal rates.
Auditorium:
“Shivalayaa” is a fully air conditioned auditorium of 1500 seating capacity built with a view to hold various curricular, co-curricular and cultural activities like seminars, conferences, intra and inter-universities cultural fests. It is one of the biggest auditoriums in this part of Chennai that provides an opportunity for the students to exhibit their innate talents during the course of their study.

VELS University possess 5 Well-equipped, state-of-the-art air-conditioned conference halls with latest audio-visual equipments, which in turn make the seminars and conference sessions more lively and attractive.
