16. | (a) Organizations whose information systems are not integrated do not necessarily suffer from an inability to actually make or produce goods. The main issue that they face is determining when they should produce goods and what quantities should be produced.
Questions: i) Discuss the above statement and summarize various production problems that the company may encounter. ii) Describe how these problems may be alleviated if the organizations were to implement Integrated information System (ISS) to support production process. (10 marks) (b) When considering the adoption of an ERP system, a major part of the implementation usually involves the modification of business processes to comply with the suggested processes supplied by the ERP package. However, many organizations will require the retention of certain existing aspects of their business processes. They also will most likely need to retain much of the information that resides in the current files and data stores that they have used to manage their business. In many cases, they may also have to continue to use certain existing systems following implementation of the ERP system. Questions: i) Elucidate how these issues are managed in the context of ERP Implementations. ii) Emphasize any pitfalls that should be avoided in dealing with these issues. (10 marks)
