KOLKATA: Living up to the craze surrounding the first ever international pink ball Test match in India, the city was decked up in pink on Thursday. While city landmarks like Shahid Minar, municipal parks and Maidan tents glowed with pink lights, iconic buildings like The 42, too, were seen bathed in the hue.
Even the ferries that take passengers across the Hooghly, were decked up with pink lights on Thursday. Around a dozen hoardings and LED signboards have been installed at several important crossings in the city to mark the arrival of the landmark moment in Indian cricket.
To grab the attention of people from a distance, a ball-shaped pink blimp has been hoisted high above Eden Gardens. A 3D map on the iconic TATA Steel building has peaked the curiosity of even those who are least interested in cricket.
Also, specially decorated buses themed around the pink ball test cricket were seen on the road to publicize the gala event. The day/night Test match also has its own mascots – Pinku-Tinku – dressed in teal and purple who will be entertaining the spectators throughout the five days of the match.
