Kolkata: Rs 1.9 crore gold biscuits seized, two held | Kolkata News


KOLKATA: DRI sleuths seized 40 gold biscuits weighing more than 4.5kg and worth about Rs 1.9 crore. Two persons were arrested on charges of smuggling the gold from Bangladesh. The sleuths intercepted a mini truck, coming from Bongaon, near Birati, about 18km from Kolkata on October 17.
After a raid, they found the gold biscuits bearing foreign markings. Apprehending the owner and driver of the truck, Sufal Halder, the DRI team arrested Manik Shil from his home in Birati in the early hours on October 18.
Both the accused confessed to having transported foreign gold in the past. The duo were produced before the judicial magistrate who remanded them in judicial custody.
