KOLKATA: A 46-year-old manager of a Park Street nursing home was shot at by a gang of robbers on Kalyani Expressway at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas on Sunday night. The victim, Bivuti Ghosh, had tried to resist the goons as they tried to rob him of his new two-wheeler.
Ghosh was struck by a bullet on his stomach and is battling for his life in Kalyani JNM hospital. Police are looking for the culprits.
Cops said the incident occurred around 10.40pm when Ghosh, a resident of Bhatpara’s Kutubpur off Kalyani Expressway, was returning home.
“A gang of five armed goons accosted Bivuti near Jagaddal’s Panpur, barely half kilometre from our house. The robbers held him at gunpoint and asked him to handover his bike to them. As my brother to refused and tried to escape, the goons shot at him. The first bullet missed the mark, but the second one hit him. On hearing the gunshots and his cries for help, locals rushed to the spot. Alarmed by the commotion, the goons fled the spot,” said Haradhan, the victim’s brother.
Ghosh was first rushed to Bhatpara State General Hospital and later shifted to Kalyani JNM Hospital after his condition deteriorated. Cops suspect some local goons were involved in the crime.
