Nine cops injured in mob attack in West Bengal | Kolkata News

MIDNAPORE: Nine policemen were injured and four police vehicles vandalized by a mob at Goaltore‘s Amlasuli area on Sunday when the cops had gone to remove a roadblock on the Humgarh-Garbeta state highway. The locals had staged the roadblock to protest against an accident on Saturday, in which a 22-year-old, Shibananda Dutta, was killed allegedly after being hit by a police vehicle at Piyasala. Five persons were arrested for the attack.
Two of the policemen had to be hospitalized. A police team had been posted in the area and a route march, led by additional SP (headquarters) Amlan Kusum Ghosh, was held to control the situation.
Locals claimed Dutta and his uncle were returning home from their shop on a motorcycle, which was hit by a police vehicle. However, a senior police officer refuted the allegation.
