KOLKATA: Presidency University, which is gearing up for students’ council elections on November 14, has put in place a blueprint to ensure smooth polling. The university authorities will inform Jorasanko police station, who will deploy personnel at the gates. No outsiders except bonafide students and stakeholders will be allowed to enter the university.
“Entry through the main gate will be suspended at 10.40am. Entry will be permitted to regular students only, who will have to show their valid university identity cards. Research scholars will also be allowed to enter upon production of their identity cards,” said an official.
Entry will also be restricted for the casual students and those who are yet to receive an ID. “It is not compulsory for class representative candidates to be present. They can win the poll without casting his/her own vote. But they are required to authorize one of their classmates duly attested by the dean of students who will sign on the result sheet,” added a source.
Apart from returning officer, commission personnel, contesting candidate and one representative or polling agent of the candidate, no one will be allowed near Derozio Hall where the counting will happen.
The election will start at 11am. Classes have also been suspended on the day. “I will do the needful on Wednesday, if any additional arrangements need to be made as per the request of dean of students,” an official said.
