KOLKATA: Three persons were sentenced to five-year imprisonment on Friday more than 12 years after they had abducted a minor girl from Kolkata and tried to sell her off.
The 16-year-old, a resident of Christopher Road, had gone missing on July 13, 2007 and a complaint was lodged with the Topsia police station. A few days later, the Class-X student had escaped from the accused and returned home. Cops arrested the culprits.
During investigations, it came to light that Ranjit Gayen befriended the teenager through a woman Mamoni Gayen and offered to take her on a day’s outing to the Sunderbans.
The teenager was forced to stay at Ghutiari Sharif for some days. She fled after overhearing Ranjit and Mamoni’s plans to sell her off to somebody in Uttar Pradesh.
