Bhubaneswar Development Authority to hire agency to maintain parks | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: To ensure proper maintenance of parks and roads, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has decided to select one agency that will not only take care of the civil work and plantation in parks but look after greenery along the roads.
The urban body has invited a tender to select the agency, which, if all goes as per plan, will be hired and put on the job by mid-November. “A competitive bidding will be held to select the agency. The tender process is expected to be completed by this month and the agency will be hired accordingly,” a BDA official said.
According to the plan, the selected agency will take up garden and lawn maintenance, garbage collection and disposal, civil works, including maintenance of statues, fountains, benches and pathways, lamps and electrical installations of the toilets, water pumps and water lines and painting of boundary walls, among others.
Besides, the agency will take care of drinking water facilities and ensure the parks are opening and closing on time. It will look after visitors and keep a record of them. It will also ensure that no visitor enters the park with food items.
The development authority has also created five packages of parks to make the work easier for the agency, which will take up the work in a phased manner. The agency will visit and complete the civil and other works in medium-level parks on a scheduled and planned time limit. “There are semi major parks, which were divided into packages. Each package contains parks at a particular location. This has been done to make the maintenance work easier for the agency. This package system will also bring transparency as we will be monitoring the work at our end,” the official added.
The first package includes Kalpana Park and Badagada Brit Colony Park, among others, while the second package includes MLA Colony Park and Unit VIII Park and the third package includes different parks located in Nayapalli. The fourth package includes Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Park and others while the fifth package has Kharvel Park.
“The BDA is maintaining the parks well. They have introduced several new services in the parks, including the open air gymnasium. These need to be maintained and I hope the BDA is making the right move in outsourcing the work,” said Gopal Jena of Nayapalli.
