BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) will ban single use plastic in its premises, especially in stations, trains, resident areas and in its establishments from October 2. This move came after the Centre took measure to impose a nation-wide ban on single use plastic.
Vidya Bhushan, ECoR general manager, administered oath to its employees and officers not to use plastic in their day-to-day life and to make others aware about plastic’s harmful impact on environment.
The railway zone has taken several environment-friendly initiatives, including installation of plastic bottle crushing machines at stations. It has installed 16 such machines at different railway stations over its jurisdiction. It is also planning to install such machines at different stations.
