Kamal Haasan meets Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik to seek advice on politics | Bhubaneswar News timesofindia.indiatimes.com

BHUBANESWAR: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and actor Kamal Haasan here on Monday said his and Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s concerns for Tamil Nadu are similar, which is a reason they “sound alike”.
“Mr Rajini and I have a celebrated friendship for nearly 43 years from now and that remains. Our concerns for Tamil Nadu are also similar…may be not the ideologies but concerns. So, we are very friendly towards each other, which is not usually found in politics,” said Haasan after meeting BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik here at the latter’s residence.
The actor-turned politician said he met Naveen to seek his advice for the future political journey.
“I had a wonderful meeting with the chief minister… basically it is a one-sided receiving of advice. I asked many questions to which he had some great answers which can’t be discussed here. We are happy that we found time to meet him” said MNM chief, who was flanked by party vice president R Mahendran.
Stating that Naveen has an unprecedented political career, Haasan said he has been watching and learning a lot from the Odisha chief minister. “We are happy to speak one-on-one with him and get his wisdom and experience which we can use in any part of India for politics,” he added.
On the meeting, Naveen said he had a discussion with Haasan about his future political career, prospects and films.
Earlier, Naveen and Haasan had met on September 26 last year in Chennai when the Odisha chief minister was in the southern city to attend an investment roadshow.
On his aspirations five years from now, Haasan said he will remain in politics even after five years. “Where and on what position does not matter. I will be in a better Tamil Nadu,” he added.
The 65-year old leader said there was no threat for the regional parties in Southern states even as the BJP making inroads into the region. “If your purpose is upliftment of your state, nobody can endanger the things. But if your aspiration is for self-aggrandizement, it is dangerous,” he added.
When asked as to whom he will ally with, Haasan said that does not matter. “Those who are not corrupt. That’s the first parameter. The usual sarcasm is that there is nobody like that. You must have the tenacity to say that I am not dishonest,” he added.
Stating that acting and politics are two different things, Haasan said he won’t act when he became a politician and vice versa.
