MoU to be signed between Odisha govt, railways for redevelopment of Bhubaneswar station | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: The Indian Railways and the Odisha government will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for construction of Bhubaneswar Railway Station Multimodal Hub (RSMH) on Thursday evening.
The area near Bhubaneswar railway station has been proposed for development as RSMH project under the Smart City Mission of the Centre. Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) of the state government has taken up the project.
This multimodal hub will have new terminal building for railway station, city bus terminal, public car park and other allied public utilities. The new station building and the two new railway lines with platforms will be developed in an integrated manner over the land belonging to the railways and the state government. The proposed building will have ground with five floors of which ground plus two floors will be earmarked for the use of the East Coast Railway (ECoR). The area earmarked for the railways will be 1.74 lakh square feet, ECoR sources said.
The railway will spend around Rs 70 crore including construction of two additional lines with one platform, full cover shed, extension of the foot over bridge and all modern passengers’ amenities. The state government will spend around Rs 60 crore for the construction of new station building having ground with two floors.
Sashikant Singh, divisional railway manager of Khurda Road Railway Division, will sign the MoU with BDA vice chairman. Union railway minister Piyush Goyal, Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan and chief minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik will be on video conference during the signing of the MoU.
