BHUBANESWAR: In an effort to ensure that vehicles used by various state government departments and subordinate offices run with proper documents, the state transport department has asked them to obtain necessary certificates before the three-month grace period for the implementation of the MV Act comes to an end.
In a letter to the secretaries of all departments, Premananda Khuntia, additional secretary of state commerce and transport department, said, “During enforcement, it was found that some government vehicles did not possess the required documents like driving licence, pollution and registration certificates, mandatory under the new law.”
To help people acquire documents, the transport department has increased the working hours in RTO offices and has opened more counters. In Bhubaneswar, four such extra counters have been opened. The number of pollution testing units has also been gone up. To facilitate government vehicles obtain documents, a centre to issue licence and a pollution testing unit have also been opened at the OSRTC office near the state secretariat.
