BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday inaugurated the new state Convention Centre, a state-of-the-art facility, within the premises of the state secretariat.
Built over an area of 5,200 square/metre, the building has two floors (ground plus one) with all modern facilities. It was developed by the state works department with an investment of around Rs 50 crore, said official sources.
The ground floor of the newly-developed centre has a huge conference hall of around 400 seating facility, which is equipped with advanced facilities like a large video wall, lighting and sound system with line array speakers. A banquet hall of around 90 seating capacity, break out space of around 60 seating capacity, a well-furnished VIP lounge and a medical room are other facilities on the ground floor of the building.
The first-floor has a 100-seater conference hall, two other small conference halls of 30 and 15 seating capacity respectively and a food plaza of 100 seating capacity. Water conservation system and landscaping around the building are some of the added features.
“There was a need for a modern convention centre for important government activities. It has all state of the art facilities. All the important meetings will now be held here. The state and central PSUs can also hold their meetings in the conference hall,” said chief secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy after inauguration of the building.
The senior officers conference scheduled on January 17, which will be attended by secretaries of all departments, all collectors and all IAS officers will be held at the newly-constructed facility.
The convention centre is also expected to save government revenues as various state government departments hire private hotels to hold important meetings, conferences and launching ceremonies as there was no government-owned convention centre accommodating more than 100 people.
The Odisha Knowledge Hub lecture series addressed by eminent personalities of the country, important MoU signing ceremonies and other high-level meetings, which are now being held at the RD conference hall or third floor conference hall of the state secretariat will now be held at the new convention centre.
