Road blocked after college girl run over | Bhubaneswar News

BERHAMPUR: Locals blocked Purushottampur- Berhampur road for several hours after a college girl was killed in a road accident at Purushottampur bridge in Ganjam district on Monday. Irate villagers did not allow police to take the body for postmortem and demanded adequate compensation.
The deceased, identified as Rouli Dora, 18, a student of Plus III (first year) in the local college, was killed when a sand-loaded truck ran over her. She was returning home in her scooter in Kespur after completing her computer class at Purushottampur when the mishap took place, police said. She died on the spot.
People of the nearby area gathered on the spot and blocked the road. They demanded adequate compensation to the parents of the victim. Police forces rushed to the spot. “This is not for the first time an accident took place in the area. Accidents are taking place frequently due to the reckless driving by drivers of sand-laden trucks,” alleged an agitator.
There is a need to restrict and control movement of the sand-laden trucks in the area, they said.
“We convinced the agitating people to lift the blockade,” said inspector in-charge, Purushottampur police station, Jagannath Mallick. He said the truck, which crushed the girl, was seized and its driver detained.
