Asks them for intensifying awareness activities to sensitize people about EVP
JALANDHAR- The Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma directed the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to ensure huge success of the Electors Verification Program (EVP) in the district.
Chairing a meeting with the Nodal officers here at district administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Nodal officers of all the assembly segments must intensify the activities being carried out by them during the EVP, which was launched by on September 1.
He said that the citizen must be encouraged to come forward to check to verify and authenticate the electoral roll details through National Voter Service Portal (NVSP), Voter helpline App, by visiting common service centres or by calling 1950.
The Deputy Commissioner said that under the ongoing EVP, the basic idea behind launching this campaign was to empower voters to self-authenticate the details in electoral rolls and weed out mistakes, if any. Mr. Sharma said that besides checking their details through online mode the voters could also visit Common Service Centres for this purpose.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the citizens could authenticate existing details relating to voter verification, by giving a copy of one of the following documents including Indian Passport, Driving Licence, Aadhar, Ration Card or other document approved by the commission.
He said that EVP would help in improving the health of electoral rolls and enrolment of all eligible citizens during special summary revision 2020 by verification or authentication of electors’ details.
Sharma said that house to house verification is also being carried out by BLOs where they are verifying information/details collected from citizen and would also collect information/details of un-enrolled/dead/shifted electors till September 30.
On the occasion, SDMs Paramvir Singh, Amit Kumar, Sanjiv Kumar Sharma, Ranbir Singh, Tehsildar Election Manjit Singh, Election Kanugo Rakesh Kumar and others were present.
