JALANDHAR: In a major crackdown on eateries who were flouting the norms by serving the food at their place amidst lockdown due to Covid 19 pandemic, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police today booked a Restaurant owner for violating the lockdown norms.
On Tuesday evening, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police I Vatsala Gupta, who has assumed the charge of her office recently, was patrolling the area on Nakodar road along with Assistant Commissioner of Police Harsimrat Sjngh and SHO Rachpal Singh when she saw a restaurant owner violating the Corona lockdown norms by serving Gol gappas to the people in the open. Swinging into action she immediately asked the Station House Officer to arrest the Restaurant owner who was endangering the lives of people by defying the lockdown norVatsala Gupta said that open defiance of instructions of the government was totally unwarranted and undesirable.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police said that giving a major relaxation to the Restaurants the state government has allowed them to open their premises for take-home or home delivery services. However, she said that keeping in view the larger public interests in-dine services has not been resumed so far. However, Vatsala Gupta said that as the restaurant owner had defied the law so he has been booked and arrested and a case under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 51 Disaster management act and 3(2) Epidemic Disease Act against him.
Warning the violators of strict punitive action in case of flouting of norms, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police said that the drive would continue in the coming days too. She said that anyone found violating the norms would be dealt with heavy hand and severest of severe action would be taken against him as per the provisions of law.
