Nearly 70 to 80 persons booked for stubble burning from village Panjgrain kalan of Faridkot while the kisan union is demanding cancellation of FIRs against farmers from the district

 Faridkot: While the Bhati Kisan Union Sidhupur Ekta has been demanding a cancellation of the FIRs for stubble burning against the farmers and running its state level protest from Faridkot, in the same district, the police have booked nearly 70 to 80 farmers on the complaint of sub divisional officer(SDO) Punjab Mandi board Faridkot Monday.

The farmers are all residents of village Panjgrain kalan of district Faridkot including some women who have been alleged to have burnt the paddy stubble in their fields as complaint to the police by the cluster officer.

On Sunday too, the police had registered a case against some farmers though the season to stubble bring now is almost ended.

The accused in the FIRs have been booked under section 188 of CrPC .

“The police have got the complaint from the SDO Punjab Mandi Board who has alleged that as per the teams formed by the district administration to check the stubble burning to report such cases, the police have got the complaint by the said cluster officer who has complained that all those persons mentioned in the letter has burnt their stubble of paddy after harvesting and violated section 144 of CrPC of 1973 which is a crime under section 188 of CrPc, reads the complaint to the police by the complaint.”

It is pertinent to mention that Bharti Kisan Union Sidhupur Ekta has been running its state level protest from Jaitu town of Faridkot district demanding cancellation of FIRs against farmers besides the remission of farmers for nearly a month. They are demanding a compensation Rs 2500 per acre as per the Apex court directions for farmers but going unheard.

Though village heads, As Sarpanches are also held accountable to report against the stubble burners, but there is hardly any case in which the sarpanches are complainants because they are afraid of social problems.

They said that they cannot afford to go against the farmers of the village. So most of the farmers have been booked on the complaints of cluster officers appointed by the district administration.
