Village Dhabarsi, District Moradabad, December 31, 1899; ed. at Nanakchand High School, Meerut and thereafter privately; Widower; 3 D.; Agriculturist; Resigned military service in 1920 while in field in the 1st World War in East Persia to join the Non-Cooperation Movement; Court-martialled, dismissed from Service; externed from Baluchistan and all pay deposits forfeited; Joined Non-Cooperation Movement; Convicted several times along with wife and daughter (total confinement 7½ years); Member, A.I.C.C. for 39 years; Member, U.P. Legislative Assembly for 9 years; Member, Constituent Assembly, Provisional Parliament, First Lok Sabha, 1952—57 and Second Lok Sabha, 1957—62; Minister, Revenue and Expenditure upto 16th March, 1953, Minister of Defence Organisation upto April 1957; Chairman, Public Accounts Committee since June 1962.
