Commercial School, Ahmedabad, passed S.S.C. and Kovid Hindi); m. Smt. Babuben; 1937 (early age) 3 s. and 3 d.; Industrial Worker, Worker teacher, Ahmedabad Electricity Company, Sabarmati, coaching workers and Trade Apprentices, was Personal Secretary to the late Shri Parikshithil Majumdar, who was looking after the work of the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi and the welfare of Harijans; previously associated with Congress (O); Secretary, Ahmedabad District Congress (O) Committee, 1964—69; was Section Leader, Homeguard Unit, Sabarmati Centre for 17 years; Chairman,  (i) Shri Morarji Nagar Cooperative Housing Society for 12 years in Sabarmati and (ii) District Cooperative Bank, Sabarmati Branch; Vice-President Ahmedabad District Industrial Cooperative Associaton; Secretary Government Hostel, Sabarmati; Director, Ahmedabad Industrial Cooperative (Handloom) Association Ltd., 1968—72 and since then its Vice-President; Honorary Second Class Magistrate for Ahmedabad District, 1969—74; Member, (i) Education Committee, Ahmedabad District School Board, 1952—64, (ii) State Transport Board for Ahmedabad Division and (iii) Social Welfare Board, Gujarat; presently Member (i) Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and (ii) Committee on Absence of Members;

Social activities:  Working for the last 30 years amongst depressed and backward classes for betterment of their lives socially and economically by giving good education to the Harijan students; consistently fighting for the rights of industrial workers and trying to solve their problems.

Gaggu Bahan Makwana, 1943; 4 s. and 3 d.; Political and Social Worker; previously associated with Praja Socialist Party, 1948-69; Actively participated in the ‘Quit India’ movement of 1942; Also participated in the movement for the liberation of Goa, Daman and Diu in 1955 and the non-cooperation movement of agricultural labourers of Pardi in  1953; underwent imprisonment for joining the Maha Gujarat movement, 1956-57; was imprisoned again for participating in the Central Government Employees Agitation in 1960 and non-cooperation movement in connection with the Maha Gujarat Martyrs’ Memorial  in 1956; Cabinet Minister for Panchayat, Cooperation and Cottage Industries, Government of Gujarat, 1978; Member, Central Executive Committee of Textile Labour Association, Ahmedabnd for three years; Councillor, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, for two terms, 1965-74; Leader, Congress Party in the Corporation; Member, Standing Committee, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation; Member, (i) Gujarat Legislative Assembly, 1972-74 and 1975-80, (ii) Estimates Committee of Gujarat Legislative Assembly and (iii) Seventh Lok Sabha, 1980-84; Member, Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, 1985-86.
