DASGUPTA, SHRI K. N., B.A., Janata, (West Bengal—Jalpaiguri—1977):  s. of late Shri, Ishan Chandra Dasgupta; b. at Jalpaiguri, July 6, 1898; ed. at Calcutta University; m. Smt. Aruna Dasgupta; 3 d.; political worker; previously associated with Congress; was Member of a revolutionary Party from 1913 to 1920; joined Non-Cooperation Movement in 1920 after the Special Session of the Congress at Calcutta as a whole-time worker, organised Congress in Jalpaiguri District; went to jail several times; Member, All India Congress Committee for several years; Member, Legislative Assembly, Bengal, 1937 to 1947 and Member, Legislative Assembly, West Bengal, 1947 to 1968; Cabinet Minister, West Bengal, 1952—57 and again in 1968 for a short duration; Opposition Leader in 1967 during the United Front Ministry.

Social activities:  President of a number of social organisations concerning relief, welfare and music.

Special interests:  Archaeology, history and politics.
