JIPMER 2016 Syllabus

JIPMER Syllabus:

             JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research) is an important medical entrance examination in India. More than one lakh students take part in this exam every year to get admission to the MBBS course in JIPMER, Pondicherry.

 

Advantages of taking part in JIPMER:

  • JIPMER is the fourth top most medical institution of India next to AIIMS, CMC and AFMC.
  • JIPMER examination contains no negative marking scheme. Thus, students can attend all questions in the question booklet.
  • Questions are mostly direct and not much twisted when compared to other medical entrance examination.

Syllabus of JIPMER:

                 Here is the syllabus of JIPMER 2016. This is the reference from JIPMER 2015. Thus, students have to keep on checking the official site of JIPMER to know the latest syllabus.

The pattern of the exam covers:

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Logical reasoning.

Total number of questions: 200 (Only multiple choice of questions)

Duration of the exam: Two hours and 30 minutes

 

Questions subject wise:

 Physics: 60

Chemistry: 60

Biology: 60

English: 10

Logical reasoning: 10

Syllabus is covered from the 12th standard board examination questions.

 

Chemistry:

  • Basic concepts in Chemistry:

           Physical quantities and measurement in Chemistry, Matter and its nature, laws of chemical combinations, atomic, molecular, masses mole concept, chemical stoichiometry.

  • Atomic structure:

               Thomson’s and Rutherford atomic models, Bohr’s model of hydrogen atom, Heisenberg uncertainty principle, angular momentum and magnetic electronic spin and spin quantum numbers, Aufbau principle, Hund’s rule, electronic configurations of elements.

  • States of matter:

       Three states of matter, Kinetic theory of gases, real gas and deviation from ideal behavior, intermolecular forces, solids and liquids.

  • Chemical energetic:

             Basic concepts in thermodynamics, thermochemical equations, enthalpy changes during phase transformation, Hess’s law, standard enthalpies of formation, bond enthalpies.

  • Classification of elements and periodicity in properties:

     Modern periodic law and present form of periodic table, electronic configuration and types of elements and s,p,d,f, periodic trends in properties and elements.

  • Basic principles of organic chemistry:

Tetravalence of carbon, general introduction to naming organic compounds, electronic displacement in covalent bond, Fission of covalent bond, carbocations and carbonanions.

  • Chemistry in everyday life:

Chemicals in food, cleansing agents such as soaps, detergents, cleansing action, rocket propellants, chemicals in medicine.

  • Hydrocarbons:

Alkanes and cycloalkanes, alkenes and alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons, petroleum and petrochemicals.

  • Purification and characterization of carbon compounds:

Purification of carbon compounds, qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, determination of molecular masses.

  • General principles and processes of isolation of elements:

    Methods and principles of extraction, occurrence and principles of extraction of Al, Cu, Zn, Fe.

Physics:

  • Introduction and measurement:

   Need for measurement in physical quantities, units for measurement, systems of unit, dimensions of physical quantities, orders of magnitude, random and instrumental errors, Trignometric functions.

  • Description of motion in two and three dimensions:

     Vectors in two or three dimension, vector addition and multiplication, scalar and vector products, motion in two dimensions, general relation among position-velocity-acceleration for motion in a plane and circular motion.

  • Description of motion in one dimension:

                       Objects in motion in one dimension, motion in straight line, uniform, non-uniform motion, speed and velocity, relative velocity, average speed and instantaneous velocity, Uniformly accelerated motion, acceleration in one dimensional motion.

  • Laws of motion:

               Force and inertia, Momentum, conservation of momentum, rocket propulsion, static and kinetic frictions, rolling frictions, lubrications, inertial and non-inertial frames.

  • Rotational motion:

             Centre of mass of rigid body, nature of rotational motion, torque, angular momentum and its geometrical and physical meaning, conservation of angular momentum, moment of inertia and its significance, comparison between translatory (linear) and rotational motion.

  • Gravitation:

               Universal law of gravitation, inertial and gravitational mass, orbital velocity, geostationary satellites, gravitational potential, escape velocity and weightlessness.

  • Oscillations:

   Periodic and oscillatory motions, simple harmonic motion, resonance and damped oscillations with examples.

  • Magnetic effects of current:

         Oersted’s observation, magnetic field due to straight wire, circular loop and solenoid, forces and torques on currents in a magnetic field, forces between two currents, definition of amphere, ammeter and voltemeter.

English and comprehension:

         This is divided into three sections such as

Section A:

                 Reading passages and note making

Section B:

           Writing skills

Sections C:

             Literature and long reading text.

English section also covers synonyms, antonyms and some vocabulary.

 

Logical reasoning:

       Questions from Analogy test, Logical deduction, figure formation and analysis, questions on figure matrix, etc.

        Before start preparing for JIPMER be clear with the syllabus of JIPMER 2016. Prepare your study strategy according to the syllabus. Concentrate more on important and repeated questions. Never waste your time in learning less important topics. Be clear and confident to clear JIPMER examination.

 

 

 

 

JIPMER PG 2014 Merit List & Rank Card

Validity of  Merit List & Rank Card

  1. The validity of Merit list shall be only for the current academic session i.e. April, 2014 session admission for MD/MS courses and cannot be carried forward for the next year/session.
  2. Downloadable rank letter will be hoisted on website 3 days after publication of merit list. No individual communication regarding merit / ranking shall be sent to any candidate. This downloaded rank letter should be retained safely till the completion of Admission Process.

JIPMER PG 2014 Merit List

  • Merit Ranking would be based on percentile.
  • The percentile shall be determined on the basis of the average marks obtained by the first top ten candidates in the Entrance Examination MD / MS – 2014.
  • Merit List would be drawn category wise based on minimum percentile as given below:     
Category Minimum Percentile
Unreserved (UR) / Institute (INST) 50
Orthopedic Physically Challenged – UR (OPH) 45
OBC / SC / ST (Including OPH) 40

In order to be eligible for admission to any Postgraduate course at JIPMER, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain a percentile of 50 and above in the Entrance Examination for the current academic year. However, in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes including OPH, the minimum percentile shall be 40. In respect of Unreserved Orthopedic Physically Challenged (OPH) candidates, 45 shall be the minimum percentile. Candidates who secure less than the minimum percentile in the Entrance Examination will not be considered for admission and their names will not be included in the Merit List.



 

JIPMER PG 2014 Entrance Examination : Do’s and Don’t’s

  • Candidates should report at the Exam City latest by 8.00 am. No entry will be permitted after 10.00 am.

  •  Carry only Hall Ticket inside the hall. No candidate will be allowed to take the examination without producing the valid Hall Ticket.

  • The Mode of Examination is On-line based Distributed Object System Examination consisting of 250 single best response type multiple choice questions. Test Administration on 23-02-2014 (Sunday).

  • Biometric authentication through digital device and hard copy of signature and fingerprint in attendance sheet will be taken. Cooperation of the candidate is solicited.

  • Do not bring any other papers except Hall Ticket. Do not bring cellular phones, calculators, watch calculators, alarm clocks, digital watches with built-in-calculators / memory, ear Phones. (No arrangements will be made by the duty staff for safe keeping and returning the above gadgets if brought).

  •  In case any candidate is caught or found to use any means of techno copying he / she shall be liable to be punished by the competent authority.

  • Use of unfair means /impersonation will lead to summary cancellation of selection / admission.

  • JIPMER reserves the right to reschedule the date / time of the Examination, depending upon local conditions.

  • Mobile phones are banned in the venues of the Entrance Examination.

  • Candidates taking the Entrance Examination will be subjected to through frisking before being allowed into the Hall.

JIPMER PG 2014 Hall Tickets

  • Hall Tickets for the Entrance Examination shall be available for download to eligible candidates, whose Applications are complete and accurate in all respects, from 15-02-2014 Onwards.
  • The Hall Ticket will contain Roll Number, Name, Photo, Signature and Examination city/venue of the Examination.
  • To rectify discrepancy if any the candidate should contact the help desk immediately.
  • Discrepancy would mean difference between the data including the photograph and signature given in the application and the Hall ticket.
  • No rectification will be done if the details given by the candidate in the application and the details contained in the Hall ticket are one and the same.
  • Hall Ticket can be downloaded from the website: www.jipmer.edu.in as per the dateline given in the prospectus.
  •  No candidate will be allowed to appear for the Entrance Examination unless he / she hold the Hall Ticket from the website of JIPMER.

JIPMER PG 2014 Application Availability

1) Candidates seeking admission to entrance examination is required to apply on-line.

2) Log on to link in the Home page www.jipmer.edu.in. and navigate to the link “Apply on-line MD/MS admission – 2014”.

3) Read the prospectus and instruction carefully.

4) The flow chart for filling application on-line given as Appendix in the Prospectus.

5) The candidate should acquaint himself/herself with all requirements with regard to filling up the application on-line.

6) Mode of payments are a) Net Banking, b) Credit Card, c) Debit Card

7) DISCLAIMER:

 1. Mere completion of “REGISTRATION FOR PAYMENT” does not confer right for issue of hall ticket.

2. The process of submission of application On-line is completed only after clicking the “submit button” after Up loading personal details, Scanned Photograph and Scanned Signature (Refer to the Flow chart appended to the prospectus).

3. The candidate is advised to download a copy of their filled in application which would contain Application No., Personal details, scanned photograph, scanned signature and the payment details.

4. Fees would not be refunded under any circumstances.

5. No request for change in the details provided in the application would be considered, after the submission of the On-line application by clicking the “submit button”.

6. Incomplete application, application with false details would be rejected

Instructions for Photograph:

a. One (1) recent colour passport size photograph with light background is required. Black & White / Polaroid photographs are not acceptable.

b. Photograph MUST be snapped on or after 01.12.2013.

c. Photograph must be taken with name of candidates (as in application) and date of taking photograph.

  •  The photograph must be snapped with a placard while the placard is being held by the candidate indicating name of candidate and date of taking photograph. In case name and date are written on the photograph after taking it, the application will be rejected.
  •  The name and date on the photograph should be legible.

JIPMER PG 2014 General Information

1. The candidate is advised to read the Prospectus, Help Manual and other details carefully before starting online  registration. In the event of rejection of the application form, no correspondence / request for re-consideration, will be  entertained.

2. Download and retain a copy of the application till the completion of Admission Process.

3. Results as well as dates for counseling and the Category Ranks in the order of merit called for counseling shall be  displayed in Notice Board of Academic Section, JIPMER and in JIPMER Website www.jipmer.edu.in

4. Candidates will NOT be informed individually either through telephone or by post, etc.

5. Candidates in their own interest are advised to browse JIPMER Website periodically for any updated latest  information.

6. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

7. Admission of candidates to MD/MS courses are subject to fulfillment of eligibility conditions framed by this Institute.  Mere qualifying in the entrance examination does not confer any right for admission to MD/MS Courses.

8. Downloaded hall ticket is provisional for appearing for the Entrance Examination.

9. If ineligibility of a candidate is detected at any stage before or after examination/ declaration of result, his/her  candidature/admission will be summarily cancelled.

10. The centre indicated for the entrance examination by a candidate is final. No request for change will be entertained  under any circumstances. JIPMER reserves the right to allot an alternate center if sufficient numbers of candidates do  not opt for a particular center.

11. In case any candidate, is found to have furnished false information or certificate etc. or has withheld or concealed  any material information in his/her application, he/she will be debarred from admission.

12. In case of any unforeseen circumstances, JIPMER reserves right to reschedule the examination in public interest.

  • Selection / admission of the candidate who commits impersonation in MD/MS Entrance Examination will be  summarily cancelled. Appropriate criminal proceeding will also be initiated at the local Jurisdiction.
  • Submission / Production of false documents will lead to summary cancellation of selection / admission.
  • Candidate must not obtain or give or attempt to obtain or give irregular assistance of any kind during the examination;  this will entail expulsion and cancellation of candidature for the examination. The admission of the candidate will be  cancelled and appropriate criminal/civil proceedings will be initiated against the candidates, if at any stage of the examination the candidate is found to have secured admission by using any unfair means. Canvassing in any form will  lead to rejection of application. 
  • Candidates who have already done /completed MD/MS in any Institution are not eligible for admission to MD/MS courses  in JIPMER.
