VENKATASUBBAIAH, SHRI PENDEKANTI [Congress (I)— Andhra Pradesh, Nandyal, 1980] s. of Shri Subbaiah: b. at Kottapeta Village, Banganapalle Taluk, Kurnool District, June I8, 1921; studied upto B.A.: m. Smt. Kanakamma, February, 1943; 3 s. and 2 d.: Agriculturist; discontinued his studies, plunged into active politics and worked against the autocratic rule of the then Ruler of Banganapalle; participated in the Banganapalle State Congress Satyagraha; led the Kisan Movement for reduction of oppressive land revenue in the erstwhile Banganapalle State.; founded the Banganapalle State Congress Movement and worked for the merger of the State with Indian Union in 1948; presently Union Minister of State for Home and Parliamentary Affairs; Founder Secretary, Banganapalle State Congress; was President (i) Kurnool, DCC, 1952-57 and (ii) Andhra P.C.C.; General Secretary, A.l.C.C 1969-71: Joint Secretary, Andhra Students’ Federation; Founder and President of several Co-operative Institutions in Kurnool District and started many educational institutions and poor boys’ hostels; President, (i) Andhra State Co-operative Federation, (ii) Nandyal Cooperative Sugar Factory, (iii) Dakshin Bharat Nati-Nata Samakhya, New Delhi, (iv) Poor Boys Home, Sanjamala, Kurnool District, and (v) High School Committees, Sanjamala, Kurnool District: was Vice-Chairman, Central Warehousing Corporation: Member, (i) Madras State Legislative Assembly, 1949-52, (ii) Second Lok Sabha, 1957-62, (iii) Third Lok Sabha, 1962-67, (iv) Fourth Lok Sabha, 1967-70, (v) Fifth Lok Sabha, 1971-77, (vi) Sixth Lok Sabha, I978-79 and (vii) Public Accounts Committee, 1963-64 and 1964-65; Chairman, Estimates Committee 1967-69; Secretary, Congress party in Parliament (thrice); presently, (i) Secretary, Congress (I) Parliamentary Party, (ii) Member, Business Advisory Committee and (iii) Member, Committee of Privileges.
Social activities: Promoting education and organising hostels for Scheduled Castes and backward communities.
Favourite pastime and recreation: Reading, walking, gardening, looking after mechanised farm, rural reconstruction, music, song and drama and cultural activities.
Special interests: Agriculture, Cooperation, Commerce and development of backward, and drought affected areas.

Travels abroad: USSR, UK, USA, France, West Germany, Japan, Sri Lanka and Romania.
