Shrimati Annapurna Patnaik, November 30, 1953; 2 S. and 2 D.; Social Worker; Formerly associated with States People’s Conference, Communist Party and Peace Conference; Member, Orissa Legislative Assembly, 1952—57; Organised resistance in his student days against the tyrannies of the ruler of former Dhenkanal State Organised labourers and peasants to rise in revolt against the British rule; Founder, Secretary of Prajamandal of the former Dhenkanal State; Organised the party in the face of all repressive measures adopted by the ruler of the State; Went underground to avoid arrest; Arrested in the year 1939 for his political activities and remained in jail for 6 months; again detained from 1940 to 1942; During the Quit India movement went underground to escape capital punishment; after independence organised movement for democratic form of Government and merger of the State with the rest of the country; Was detained for 4 years from 1948 to 1952 when he identified himself with the Communist Party.
