Priyalata Borooah; 1 s.; Journalist; Imprisoned in 1930, 1941 and 1942; Member, (i) Court, Gauhati University, and (ii) Court, Viswabharati University; President, (i) Assam Society of Cultural Studies, 1964—68, became its Patron in 1968, and (ii) Assam Publications Board, 1962—67; Secretary, (i) Assam Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti, 1938—41 and (ii) Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, 1938—45; Editor, (i) Dainik Assamiya, and (ii) Netun Assamiya, an Assamiya daily,  1947—50; Member, Congress Working Committee, 1953-54; President, Congress Party, 1974—77; Appointed Chairman, (i) Oil Refinery, 1960, and (ii) Oil India, 1968; Governor of Bihar, 1971-73; Member, Assam State Legislative Assembly, 1957—62, 1962—67 and 1967—72; Minister of Education and Cooperation in Assam Government for some time; Member, (i) Constituent Assembly, 1949-50; (ii) Lok Sabha 1952—57 (has been also Deputy Chief Whip, Congress Party in Parliament during this period); (iii) Rajya, Sabha, 1973-74 and 1974—77; Union Minister of Petroleum, and Chemicals, 1973-74; Member, (i) Delegations to United Nations Organization, 1954, 1955 and 1974; and (ii) Delegation to Commonwealth Conference, New Zealand.
