Madras; Unmarried; Businessman; previously associated with the Radical Democratic Party; worked as Sub-editor of the Tamil journal “Manithan”; Trade Union Leader representing the Beedi, Oil, Lorry and Motor workers of the city and State of Madras; Councillor, Madras Corporation, 1959; Chairman, City Health Standing Committee for two terms; Mayor of Madras for two consecutive terms (1961—63) and hailed as the “Popular Mayor” Member, (i) Senate, Madras University; (2) Central Advisory Board, Social Welfare; (3) National Nutrition Advisory Committee, Government of India.
