 JOSHI, SHRI JETHALAL HARIKRISHNA, Cong. (Saurashtra—Madhya Saurashtra—1952): S. of Shri Harikrishna Pragji Joshi; B. Rajkot, May 23, 1902; ed. at Sir Jaswantsinhji High School, Limbdi and Bahauddin College, Junagadh; Advocate; Passed Law Examination of the Bar Council of Bombay and became an Advocate in 1939; m. Shrimati Nirmala Joshi; 3 S. and 3 D.; Participated in Congress Non-Co-operation movement, 1921; Headmaster, National School, at Zanzibar, 1923-24, and at Rajkot, 1928—33; President, Local Congress, 1930 and suffered imprisonment in that year; Participated in Civil Disobedience Movement, 1932; Started Seva Sangh (Social Service League), 1932 and worked for the uplift of the Labour and the depressed classes from 1932 to 1940; One of the organizers of the mass Satyagrah against Rajkot State, 1938-39; Participated in Individual Satyagrah Movement, 1941; Participated in ‘Quit India’ movement, 1942, and suffered imprisonment for 1 and 1/2 years; Secretary, Saurashtra C.C., 1944-45 and 1948-49; Pioneer and President of Labour Organizations in Saurashtra, 1944—49; Chairman, Council of Administration of Rajkot State, 1948; President, Central Saurashtra D.C.C. and Member, A.I.C.C., 1948—52; Deputy Chairman, Constituent Assembly, Saurashtra, 1949-50; Deputy Speaker, Legislative Assembly,Saurashtra, 1950—52.
