Hegde; 3 s. and 3 d.; Agriculturist; previously associated with the Congress, 1952—57, Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor, 1947—51; Judge of the High Court, Mysore, 1957—66; Chief Justice of the Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Court, 1966-67; Judge of the Supreme Court, 1967—73; Member, Governing Body of I.C.A.R. and several other associations; Member, (i) Rajya Sabha, 1952—57, (ii) Panel of Chairmen, (iii) Public Accounts Committee, 1954-55, (iv) Rules Committee, Rajya Sabha, 1952 and (v) Railway Corruption Enquiry Committee; Chairman, Committee of Privileges, Sixth Lok Sabha upto July 20, 1977; Elected Speaker; Lok Sabha July 21, 1977; alternate delegate to the Ninth Session of the United Nations in 1954 and served on its Second Committee.
