Resigned from the Telugu Desam Party, Office of Deputy Speaker and as M.L.A. in 2001 and launched the ‘Telangana Rashtra Samithi’ (T.R.S.). Subsequently, elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in a bye-election held from Siddipet Constituency. In General election to the 14th Lok Sabha and Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the T.R.S. won 5 Lok Sabha Seats and 26 Assembly Seats in alliance with Congress-I. In August 2006, resigned from the Union Cabinet for the cause of Telangana and sat on Hunger Strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Went on a Hunger Strike again on 29 November 2009 which he withdrew on 9 December 2009 following the announcement by the Govt. of India that the process for formation of a separate State of Telangana would be initiated. In the General Elections held to the 16th Lok Sabha and to the Andhra Pradesh* Legislative Assembly, won from both Medak Parliamentary Constituency and Siddipet Assembly Constituency respectively. Resigned from the Medak Parliamentary Constituency on 29 May 2014
