BHANDARI, SHRI N.B., B.A., [U.A.—Sikkim, 1984]  s. of Shri Balaram Bhandari; b. at Malbansey Busty, Soreong Bazar, West Sikkim District; October 5, 1940; ed. at Government College, Darjeeling; m. Smt. O.K., Bhandari; March 28, 1968; 1 s. and 3 d.; Writer; Political and Social Worker; previously associated with Sikkim Parishad which later merged with Congress-I; was put under house arrest from 1974 to 1976 and later kept in Sikkim Central and Behrampur Jail in West Bengal under ‘MISA’—from 1976 to 1977; Chief Minister, Sikkim from October 18, 1979 to May 11, 1984; Member, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, 1979-84.

Social activities:  Connected with a number of social and cultural organisations in Sikkim and, Darjeeling.

Favourite pastime and recreation:  Reading and writing.

Special interests:  Social work.
