Indira Gandhi; District President, All-India Scheduled Castes Council; awarded title of ‘Head Choudhary” in 1964; Councillor, Municipal Committee, Sagar, 1967; Corporator, Municipal Corporation, Sagar, May, 1983; Member, Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, 1962-67.
Social activities: Worked as Harijan Pracharak under Harijan Sewak Sangh formed by Mahatma Gandhi; organised provincial sessions of Bhartiya Dalit Varg Sangh and Harijan Sewak Sangh in 1957 and 1960 respectively and Madhya Pradesh Gram in Majdoor Maha Sangh in 1981; represented Madhya Pradesh in the Gram Mazdoor Maha Sammelan held in Siliguri in 1983; provided free legal service by pleading the cases of the poor as a member of M.P. ‘Lawyers’ Forum; worked for eradication of untouchability and poverty through “INTUC”. Organised by I.L.O. at Sagar in 1981 and at Indore, 1983; organised wrestling and athletic competitions for helping the poor students.
