Shrimati Kamala; 1 s. and 1 d.; Social Worker; Previously associated with the Goa Sewa Sangh; Joined the Ashram Sewagram (Wardha), 1940; joined All India Spinners’ Association founded by Mahatma Gandhi and worked there for about 18 months; participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and worked as an underground worker, 1943-45; imprisoned for some time during 1943-45; founded Goa Sewa Sangh to prepare the people for liberation movement; arrested on August 9, 1946, court-martialled on September 27, 1946 and deported to Portugal; Exiled for about ten years; was Convener, Ad-hoc Committee appointed by Congress for Goa, Daman and Diu; was a Member of Lieutenant Governor’s Advisory Council; President, Goa, Daman and Diu P.C.C. since March, 1963.
