Sibsagar, September 9, 1911; ed. at Sibsagar Government High School and Cotton College, Gauhati; unmarried; whole-time Congress Worker; left studies in 1930 to join Civil Disobedience Movement and was jailed for 6 months in 1930, for 21 months in 1932, again for 6 months in 1941 for Satyagraha movement and for two and half years as security prisoner during 1942-45; General Secretary, Sibsagar District Congress 1935 to 1938 and its President, 1939 to 1951; President (i) Krisok Sangha 1946-51; (ii) Assam State Co-operative Union from its inception, 1955; (iii) Assam Co-operative Sugar Mills Ltd. from 1955 to 1959; (iv) Assam Cha Muzdoor Sangh 1958-60 and (v) Assam Branch I.N.T.U.C. 1962-66; Convenor, Assam Branch H.M.S.S. and I.N.T.U.C. 1947; (ii) General Secretary, (i) Assam Branch I.N.T.U.C. 1948-1952; (ii) All India National Plantation Labour Workers Federation, 1950-52 and (iii) Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, 1967-71; General Secretary, Reception Committee 63rd Session Indian National Congress held at Pragiyotishpur, Gauhati, Assam; Member Assam Legislative Assembly 1951-57; Parliamentary Secretary to Government of Assam 1953-55; Member Rajya Sabha, 1962-68.
