D., B.E., A.I.A.D.M.K., Tamil Nadu—Thanjavur—1977): s. of Shri Doraimanickam Gopalar; b. at Senthangadu, Thanjavur District, February 25, 1930; ed. at Board High School, Rajamadam and Orathanadu and Annamalai University; m. Smt. Sakunthala, December 6, 1962; 2 s.; Engineer; previously associated with Dravida Kazhagam founder-member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam; founder-member of All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam; was closely associated with the Students’ Progress Federation; was Secretary, Annamalai University Students’ Progress Federation and General Secretary, Dravida Students’ progress Federation, 1957—70; Member, Fourth Lok Sabha, 1967—70; and (ii) Fifth Lok Sabha, 1971—77.

Favourite pastime and recreation: Reading, mass contact and social organisation.

Publications: Former Editor of Tamil daily Sama Neeti.

Sports and clubs: Was outstanding in sports during High School and University days; track and field athletic champion for three years continuously in the Annamalai University.

Travels abroad: Visited U.S.S. R. in 1974 as World Pence Conference Delegate; visited Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, South Korea Philippines and Japan in 1976.
