Maniamma, May 23, 1954; 1 s. 4 d.; Trade Unionist; left studies and offered Satyagraha; participated in 1942 “Quit India” Movement; one of the founder Members of the Trade Union Movement in Hyderabad State; started career as a Trade Union worker in Alwyn Metal Works Factory at Hyderabad on daily wages of six annas; Union Minister of State for Labour since December 31, 1984; Minister for Labour, Government of Andhra Pradesh, 1972-73 and 1974 to December, 1977; Union Minister of State for Labour, June 8, 1980 to October 10, 1980; Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, October 11, 1980 to  February 23, 1982; President, (i) Indian National Trade Union Congress Branch, Andhra Pradesh, 1952-58 and (ii) Andhra Pradesh Labour party since 1958; Member, (i) Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, 1957-78, and 1981-84 and (ii) Rajya Sabha, 1978-80.

Favourite pastime and recreation:  Reading, visiting Mandirs, Dargahs and other holy places; interested in classical music, Bhajans, Qawwalis, Ghazals and other musical programmes, movies.

Special interests:  To ameliorate the living conditions of the poor and strengthen the Trade Union Kisan Movement, improve the condition of weaker sections including minorities, physically handicapped, orphans, blind people of old age, children’s education, adult education, help the unemployed youth, starting of ITIs, solve unemployment problem and provide house sites to houseless poor, housing programme for industrial workers; keenly interested in arts, science, technology and engineering.

Sports and Clubs:  Member of Fatehmaidan Club, Lal Bahadur Stadium, Hyderabad, was a member of Scouts movement during student days.

Travels abroad:  Japan, USSR, France, Malaysia and West Germany.
