UGRASEN, SHRI, B.A., Janata, (Uttar Pradesh—Deoria—1977):  s. of Thakur Babban Singh; b. at Pauharia Village, Gorakhpur District, July 1, 1920; ed. at Udai Pratap College, Varanasi and Kashi Vishwavidyalaya; studied upto M.A. (Prev.); m. Smt. Ram Dulari Devi, June, 1938; 5 d.; Political and Social Worker; taught in the Anglo-Bengali Inter College, Dadar, Bombay and Harsh Chand Inter College, Barhaj Deoria; associated with, H.S.R. A. 1936—38, Congress Socialist Party, 1938—47, Socialist Party of India, 1947—March 1948 and Socialist Party, 1948—1977; imprisoned in the Quit-India Movement of 1942, externed from Uttar Pradesh in 1944, participated in the Labour Movement in Bombay, 1945—49 and imprisoned in the ‘Navik Vidroh’ in 1946, detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act, June 1975—January 1977, jailed more than 30 times from, 1950 to 1974; Member Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, 1957—69; Chief Whip and Leader of the Socialist Party in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly; General Secretary, Samyukta Vidhayak Dal, Uttar Pradesh, 1967—69; President, (i) Samyukta Socialist Party, Uttar Pradesh, 1970 and (ii) Socialist Party, Uttar Pradesh, 1974; Organiser, (i) Flood Relief Committee, Uttar Pradesh and (ii) Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Deoria; Member, Bhikshu Sangh, Kushinagar; Chairman, Milk Committee 1968-70, Uttar Pradesh; Presently Member, Petitions Committee.
