About the College

St. Joseph’s College Of Engineering is situated in the midst of most of the leading Companies at the Old Mahabalipuram Road in Chennai. It was started in the year 1994 with the notion of catering to the needs of manpower in technology for the country. With the students and staff drawn from most of the states of our country, the students were exposed to various social, economic and cultural lives. Ever since its established it has its speedy growth in Co-curricular, Extracurricular and Academic activities. It offers Under Graduate Courses for ten branches and Post Graduate Courses in ten disciplines of Science Engineering and Technology.Considering the Teaching Faculty, our College has Profound Professors with the qualification of PhD and Post Doctorates.

The Colleges are approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The courses offered are accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Training and Placement Support:

Campus Recruitment starts after the completion of sixth semester. Invitations are extended and accepted from the College as well as from the company respectively, well in advance in the form of mails and brochures. According to the criteria given by the Companies, the students are segregated. Based on the criteria, students register in the Placement Centre. Once the company confirms, the placement Officer gets in touch with the Companies and fix up the convenient date for the Campus Placement Process. Resume from the eligible candidates are collected for the Company Reference. Halls are suitably arranged for Written Tests, Presentation, Group Discussion, Activities and Personal Interviews. On the day of the interview Pre-Placement talk is given by the recruiters using OHP, Overhead Projector, Slide Projector, LCD and Laptops. Online Test facilities are provided. Pickups/drop from local facilities will be arranged. Due hospitality is given for the recruiters. List of selected candidates and offer letters are handed over to the Placement Officer at the end of the process. The recruiters are requested to give the feedback of the quality of the students so that it could improve the quality of the students to the previous years. Many companies participate in placement process every year with the package of handsome salary.

Infrastructure and Facilities:

The Colleges have seven Audio visual halls for conducting seminars and other Co-curricular and extracurricular activities. All the class rooms are equipped with LCD projectors and necessary teaching aids.The student co-operative store supplies all text books, notebooks, records, observations, drawing boards, mini-drafters etc. The stationery stores supply all drawing sheets, graph sheets, polar graph sheets, pen, pencil and other essential materials. The store which is situated in the campus provides items for day to day use. We have separate sections for printing and binding lab manuals, note book materials, mini-project reports, In plant training reports and final year project reports at free of cost. The Indian bank branches in the colleges assist the students in their financial transactions. We have two separate ATMs functioning for boys and girls. The colleges have two sophisticated Gymnasiums for boys and girls. The colleges have two beauty parlours for girls and saloon for boys. It have intercom facilities which connect everyone in the college. In the hostel, every room has intercom connections. It have a fitness centre with a qualified staff to monitor and guide the students. A qualified physician assisted by a staff nurse takes care of the sick in the college.
The college orchestra comprising of our own instruments and students proves to be a platform to display the talents of upcoming musicians. Movies are screened for hostel students in the open air theatre. Free washing and ironing facility is provided for the students. We have a bakery which provides delicious items for the students. The juice stall which is attached to the campus quenches the thirst of students. The colleges have a Chapel, Mosque and a Temple (Trinity) to cater to the religious needs of our students. The colleges have fully air-conditioned library spread over a total area of 45000 / 40000 sq.ft. The Central library and the Book Bank house 2,17,505 Volumes and 29,618 Titles. The Central library has 16,485 titles and 44,379 volumes whereas the Book bank has 13,133 Titles and 1,73,126 volumes. The colleges have subscribed 179 National Journals. The students can also have access to more than 3813 e-journals. There are more than 367 e-books available for ready reference. The e-resorces include IEEE, ASME, Springerlink, J-Gate, Proquest, ASTM, McGraw-Hill Access Engineering, Nature, Science Direct and Scientific American.

About IITM

Central Library:

The Central Library is well equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of CD-ROMs, On-line databases, audio video cassettes, books, e-journals, patents, e-standards, theses, reports, monographs etc. The library homepage will provide electronic access to various full text & bibliographical databases & e-journals.

Central Glass Blowing Section:

The section is equipped with sophisticated glass and quartz blowing equipments such as horizontal, cum vertical lathe, universal lathe, grinding machine and glass strain deduction apparatus. The unit can undertake jobs to construct high vacuum glass apparatus and other related glass blowing works. On a regular basis the unit is making high vacuum stop-cocks, interchangeable ground glass joints, cryogenic and high vacuum glass systems and other types of complicated glass and quartz apparatus.

Sophisticated Analytical Instruments Facility:

The Sophisticated Analytical Instruments Facility (SAIF), formerly known as RSIC, was established by Department of Science and Technology (DST). This is the first among the seven RSIC’s established subsequently by DST. The purpose of establishing these centres is to provide data collection facility from sophisticated analytical equipments to scientific community for their advanced research with nominal charges. The facility has grown into a major centre for spectral measurements, molecular and crystal structure determination and materials characterization.

Central Workshop:

Central Workshop was established in 1958 at IIT Madras as part of Mechanical Engineering Department with the support of Federal Republic of Germany by funding Rs.1.25 Cores. It has a floor area of about three hundred square meters. Central Workshop was started with the association of (late) Professor Lechner of the Technical University of Stuttgart. It was planned to set up shop facilities to impart training for B.Tech students in various shop floor techniques and fabrication. In the year 1961 – 62, only Carpentry, Fitting, Gear and Machine Shops were started, later Foundry, Welding, Electrical, Hot – working, Workshop Stores, Auto Shop, Instrument Shop, Tool Room and Gear Inspection, Numerically Controlled (NC) machines, Pneumatic & Hydraulic trainers, Electronics, FRP and Plastic Laboratories, Communication laboratories were installed to offer workshop training. Auto shop was started for the purpose of Maintenance of the buses and Institute vehicle. In the year 2001, this central workshop received ISO 9001:2000 quality certification from RWTUV, Germany.
