CHOUDHURV. SHRI J.K. B.A., (Oxonj, M.A., LL B., Cong,, (Tripura-West—1967): s. of late Shri Hara Kumar Choudhury; b. at vill. Bamai, Distt. Sylhet, 1897; ed. at Calcutta University and Honour School of English Language and Literature, University of Oxford; m. Smt. Indubala Choudhury, 1920; 4 s. and 2 d.; educationist and now Advocate, Judicial Commissioner’s Court, Agartala; joined the terrorist movement in 1911 while at school; hounded by the Police but managed to pass B.A., reading in four Colleges in two years, with honours in English; from 1919 came under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi; entered Government Service in 1920; Professor of English, Mohashin Collegem, Hcoghly, 1920; Lecturer and Professor of English, Murarichand Government College, 1921—46; Principal, Government Womens College, Sylhet, 1946-47; Principal, Maharaja Bir Bikram College, Agartala. 1948—54; Principal, Gurcharan College, Silchar, 1954—59; Principal, Cachar Collage, Silchar, 1959—64.
Social activities: founder, Secretary, Sylhet Social Service League (with the late Sir B. N. Rau as President); Founder-Secretary, Leper Asylum, Kuiaura, District Sylhet; Founder-Secretary, Harijan Hostel. Sylhet (with the assistance Of the late Thakkar Bappa); Founder President of the College of Music and Fine Arts, Agartala, 1952—64.
Hobbies: Horticulture.
Favourite pastime and recreation: Reading books.
Special interests: Literature, politics and Social Service.
Publications: (1) First Steps to Spoken English; (2) Purbachol Reconsidered (3) Les Miserables (Retold Story for children); (4) Dream College a report and a scheme for a rural University at Agartala; also written School books in English and Bengali.
