Institute of Mathematical Science is located at Chennai. The Institute was established by Alladi Ramakrishna in 1962.Fund for the University is contributed by Department of Atomic Energy. The Institute is a national level University which mainly focuses on Post Graduate and Research programs. The current director of the Institute is V.Arvind. The facilities of the institution are separate hostels for boys and girls, flat lets for married women and post doctoral fellows.The institute is located at the CIT campus on the southern region of Chennai in Taramani Road.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
Department of Mathematics
The National Board of Higher Mathematics conducts an entrance exam for the Post Graduate and PhD courses. The candidate attending the exam can join the Institution. The entrance exam consists of screening Test .The candidates who have passed the screening test are eligible for Interview. The eligibility of the candidate is that he/he must have passed Mater of degree in Mathematics with minimum percentage. The candidates who have passed JRF or GATE can directly attend the interview process.
Department of Theoretical Computer Science
The Joint Entrance Screening Test is been conducted for the PhD and Integrated PhD courses. The exam is conducted once in a year. The mathematical aspects of Computer Science are eligible for the exam. The candidates who have completed Master degree in Computer Science or Computer Applications are eligible for the exam. The exam paper consists of two sections and the time duration for the paper is three hours. The Section A is of objective type and Section B is of short type answer section. Depending on the cutoff marks the candidates are called for interview process. GATE Score is used a an advantage .Based on this score the candidates are not selected
Department of Theoretical Physics
The Joint Entrance Screening Test is been conducted for Master Degree, PhD and Integrated PhD courses. The candidates who have attended the JRF and GATE exam and has been qualified can directly attend the interview process. Depending on the cutoff marks of the JEST ,the candidates are been selected for the interview process. The Exam paper consists of two Sections with three hours time duration. The objective type and short answer type questions must be answered. The candidates who have completed Bachelor degree or Master’s degree are eligible for the Master degree and PhD respectively
Department of Computational Biology
Candidate can attend the following entrance exam for joining the courses

The eligible candidate must have completed any Master degree in any branch of Science or four year Engineering course in relevant subject.
