About the District :

 

Udaipur is a beautiful city, set amidst the Aravalli Ranges of Rajasthan, India. Known for its picturesque lakes, Udaipur also called ‘the city of lakes’. Lake Fateh Sagar

Fateh Sagar Lake is an artificial lake which is located in Udaipur. It was constructed in 1678 A.D. and was named after Maharana Fateh Singh. It is situated north-west to Udaipur and in the north of Lake Pichola.

There are three islands around the boundaries of Fateh Sagar Lake out of which Nehru Park is the largest. It is spread over 4 sq km area. Another island is constructed as a public park and houses a beautiful water fountain. It is spread in around 15 acre of land. The third island is the Udaipur Solar Observatory and is spread across 1.2 sq km.

Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola is a fresh water lake which was constructed in 1362 A.D by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar. It was named after a nearby village, Picholi. It has developed a lot in the last few centuries and it is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the city. On Lake Pichola, there are four islands namely Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas.

Dudh Talai

Dudh Talai Lake is a small lake situated adjacent to Lake Pichola, near the Shiv Niwas Palace (Residence of Maharana Fateh Singh). The lake is surrounded by hills.  Manikya Lal Verma Garden (Musical Fountain Garden) and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park are very close to Dudh Talai and serve as a spot for tourists to visit and enjoy the scenic view.

Saheliyon-ki-Bari

‘Saheliyonki Bari’, also called‘Garden of Maidens’, is a major tourist attraction of Udaipur city. Situated in the north of the city, it is a huge garden with fountains, a lotus pool and elephants made of marble. Rana Sangram Singh had built this place between 1710 A.D. and 1734 A.D. The Garden was built for the maids who had come to Udaipur with the princess as a part of the dowry. Presently, the Bari also houses a museum.

Sukhadia Circle

Sukhadia circle is a famous spot for entertainment for the people of Udaipur city. It is located near Panchwati which is at a distance of 4.6 km from Udaipur railway station. This famous spot was constructed in 1968 and was opened for public in 1970.

Gulab Bagh

Spread across 100 Acres of land, Gulab Bagh is the largest garden of Udaipur city. It was constructed by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1878 A.D. and is also known as ‘SajjanNiwas Garden’. It is a major point of tourist attraction and houses a vast rose garden in its boundaries. Because of the vast variety of roses present here, the place got its name – GulabBagh. The Bagh also houses a library which has a collection of ancient handwritten books and scriptures. Gulab Bagh is the fourth oldest zoo of India.

Sajjangarh

Sajjangarh fort, also known as ‘Monsoon Palace’, is a grand fort situated at the hilltop of Udaipur. It was built by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1874 A.D. Sajjan Singh had built this palace to watch his ancestral home in Chittorgarh and see the monsoon clouds, and hence, the place got its name as ‘Monsoon Palace’. The palace, presently, is under the ownership of the forest department of Government of Rajasthan and is open for tourists. One can experience the scenic view of the whole city from this place.

Shilpgram

Shilpgram, located at a distance of 3 km from Udaipur city, is an arts and craft centre which has an open air theatre with a seating capacity of 8,000. It is spread across 70 acres of land and is surrounded by Aravali hills. It is a museum which houses the lifestyle of the tribal people of the area. Shilpgram provides ample number of opportunities to the artists to gather together and depict their arts and craftsmanship, with a vision of increasing the knowledge and awareness about the art. Several workshops are conducted wherein the children can come and practice the historic arts and crafts taught by the professional artists.

Bagore Ki Haveli

Bagore-Ki-Haveli is a palace built by Shri Amarchand Badwa in the 18th century. He was the prime minister of Mewar from 1751 till 1778. With over 138 rooms and glass and mirror interiors, the Haveli is a wonderful place for tourists to visit. It is located near Lake Pichola at GangaurGhat.  The palace is an exemplary example of paintings and glasswork of Mewar times.

Pratap Memorial (Moti Magri)

Pratap Memorial is also known as ‘MotiMagri’ and is situated near Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur. At the top of Moti Magri, lies the Maharana Pratap Memorial which has a statue of Maharana Pratap striding his horse Chetak. The memorial is made of bronze. Its construction was initiated by Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar and was completed by a public trust.

City Palace Udaipur

Another must visit place in Udaipur for tourists, The City Palace, is a royal residence which was constructed over a period of more than 400 years. Several rulers of Mewar contributed in the development of the palace complex. Its construction wasinitiated by MaharanaUdai Singhin 1553 A.D. The City Palace is located near Lake Pichola and has a number of small palaces and temples within its boundary namely Jag Mandir, Lake Palace, Jagdish Temple, Neemach Mata Temple and Monsoon palace.

The palace stands among the largest palaces in Rajasthan and is famous for its Rajasthani and Mughal architecture.  It is situated on the hilltop and hence,apicturesque view of the city from this spot can be seen.

Pratap Gaurav Kendra

PRATAP GAURAV KENDRA RASHTRIYA TIRTH is a new Tirth at Manoharpura, Badgaon in Udaipur city in the Rajasthan state of Bharat. Started by the Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap Samiti, This project aims at providing information about historical idol maharana pratap of mewar and its past. This project aims at providing details about ancient heritage with the help of modern instruments. Pratap Gaurav Kendra is aimed at providing detailed information about the history and achievements of the king of mewar Maharana Pratap.

The prime motivation behind the project is Vetern Sangh Pracharak Respected Sri sohan singh JI who wanted that Maharana Pratap should be the icon for the youth. To materialise his vision, Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap Samiti formed in 2002 and a piece of 25 bigha land was purchased in 2007.
