Educational background:

Pursued schooling in Hindu Higher Secondary School, Triplicane, Chennai. Obtained B.A. (Economics) degree from D.G. Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, Chennai (1977-1980). Graduated B.L. from Madras Law College (1980-1983). Obtained Diploma in Labour Administration from the Tamil Nadu Institute of Labour Studies.

Formative years as an advocate and individual practice as an Advocate:

Enrolled as an Advocate on 18 January 1984 in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu. Had tutelage in the Law Offices of Mr. K.M.Srirangan and Mr.P. Rajamanickam, the then Public Prosecutor. Enjoyed extensive practice, both at the Principal Seat and Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, predominantly, on the Criminal Side. Appeared in quite a few cases in the Supreme Court of India as well. Also practised in all subordinate Criminal Courts in Chennai, City Civil Court, Labour Courts, Administrative Tribunals, Sessions Courts throughout Tamil Nadu, Debt Recovery Tribunals in Chennai, Family Court in Chennai, Mahila Court in Chennai, CBI Special Courts in Chennai, Consumer Courts in Chennai, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, New Delhi. Area of specialisation involved conduct of trials and appeals in Criminal cases and Election Petitions in the High Court.

Government positions held:

Appointed as Addl. Special Public Prosecutor by the Central Government in 1994. Appointed in 1995 as Additional Special Public Prosecutor under the NDPS Act for Special Courts in Chennai by the Central Government for a period of three years. Appointed in 1998 as Addl. Spl. Public Prosecutor for Narcotics Control Bureau, Govt. of India for Special Courts throughout Tamil Nadu for a period of three years. In 2001, appointed as Special Public Prosecutor (Narcotics) for the Madras High Court for Narcotics Control Bureau, Govt. of India, for a period of three years. Enrolled in 2001 in the Panel of the India Army, HQ, Southern Command (DV-3), HQ ATNKK & G Area as Prosecution Counsel. Nominated in 2002 as Special Public Prosecutor for Central Bureau of Investigation, for a period of three years. Appointed in 2003 as Special Public Prosecutor for Customs and Excise for Madras High Court for a period of three years. In 2003, appointed as Special Public Prosecutor under the NDPS Act by the Narcotics Control Bureau, Govt. of India for the High Courts of Madras, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Designated as Special Counsel by the Tamil Nadu Government to defend the City Police in Mr. Justice Raman Commission of Enquiry to probe into the death of one Venkatesan Panniar. Resigned all Government positions in the year 2006 and started a law firm, Norton & Grant.

Role in other arenas:

Was a Guest Lecturer in Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy, Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy-Hyderabad, Police Training College-Tamil Nadu, National Academy of Customs, Excise & Narcotics-Chennai, Staff Academic Council, University of Madras, Dr.Ambedkar Law College-Chennai and Indira Gandhi Forest Academy-Dehradun. Was engaged actively as an Honorary Editor in the Editorial Board of Madras Law Journal (Criminal), Madras Weekly Notes (Criminal), besides contributing Articles regularly to Madras Law Journal, Current Tamil Nadu Cases and Criminal Law Journal, since 1995. Passionate in teaching by conducting various programmes.

Elevation as a Judge of Madras High Court:

Sworn-in as Additional Judge of Madras High Court on 25.10.2013 and as Permanent Judge on 14.04.2015.
